Music has been a love of Tim Korthuis’ life since a young age. He completed his Masters of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Calgary in 2014, as well as holding a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance from Rocky Mountain College. He has toured as choral accompanist to New York, Montreal and Ottawa and his Graduate studies have included orchestral conducting studies in Vienna and Bulgaria as well as studying with the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Calgary Philharmonic Chorus and the professional Chamber Choir, Spiritus. He has had the pleasure to study and conduct many works including Brahms A German Requiem, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, as well as works by Schubert, Mozart, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Whitacre and Canadian Composers R. Murray Schafer and Stephen Hatfield among many others.
He regularly works with local music programs as a guest instructor, and is seen around the area as a regularly performing musician. He has served as accompanist for several local community and school choirs, including founding new choral groups: the Diamond Valley Singers and Foothills Philharmonic Chorus. He started the Foothills Philharmonic Chorus in 2014, which has grown to become the Foothills Philharmonic Society, encompassing five choirs and a wonderful orchestra, and Tim continues to mentor and teach the various ensemble conductors. Besides his position at Brant Christian School as Band and Choral Teacher, he also teaches conducting and choir at Ambrose University, and works as Worship & Arts Pastor at Okotoks Alliance Church. He has lived in Okotoks since 1984, and lives there now with his wife and 4 beautiful children.
Tim is excited to work with your great kids, helping them make music and learn to love it! If you have questions about assignments, your students or just want to chat, you can email him at tim.korthuis@pallisersd.ab.ca.
